Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing the project with Ryan Reynolds starring as Detective Pikachu - the cast also includes Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and Justice Smith (Paper Towns, The Get Down).

Motion capture will allow the film to use real actors to play the characters with the Deadpool star playing the titular investigator Detective Pikachu, with the premise of the film based on the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. This action / adventure movie is set for release in 2019.

The Truman Brewery in Tower Hamlets doubled as Pokemon's Ryme City - shot over several nights in Spitalfields - with filming on Brick Lane on separate days. Spitalfields is a highly residential area so night filming is not taken lightly.

Tower Hamlets Film Office, managed by The Film Office, ensured filming ran smoothly by working closely with the production, the Old Truman Brewery and local residents and businesses. We must mention the location team whose hard work and professionalism paid off - Chris Moore, Richard Hill & Adam Betterton.

Tower Hamlets Film Officer Ryan Green says "We worked closely with the production to ensure local residents & businesses were fully consulted and informed in advance of filming taking place. Special mention must be made to the Truman Brewery - our close working relationship enabled working practises & measures to be agreed specific to the shoot that future productions will benefit from."

The Film Office ensured that community benefits were derived from filming including donations to local resident groups that will contribute directly to the important work they carry out in the area. Some of the younger local residents and their parents were even treated to a tour of the set, including a gift of a special - edition Pokemon stuffed toy.

Special thanks must also be made to the production in providing a donation to support the work The Film Office & Tower Hamlets Council undertake to provide benefits that extend borough wide, including training & development opportunities in the film sector.

Location Manager Chris Moore says "The Film Office is the first port of call for any film company filming in Tower Hamlets. They are an essential bridge between the local residents and business. The Film Office recently help set up 4 consecutive night shoots at Truman Brewery. Although the brewery is private property we had to enter into an extensive consultation with the local residents. The Film Office helped negotiate the 02:00 finish and reassured the local residents that the noise and lights would be managed in such away that disruption would be minimal.

Sometimes it can be difficult for film companies to engage directly with local residents and this is where The Film Office excel. Their knowledge and relationships with resident's groups is excellent and enables what could be seen as controversial shoots to go ahead.

The Film Office looks forward to facilitating yet more box office hits in Tower Hamlets and maintaining its reputation as London's go-to borough for filming.
