November saw a royal visit to Tower Hamlets of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Directed by Bryan Singer and staring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury this biographical feature film follows the story of Freddie Mercury and the band leading up to Queen's legendary appearance at the Live Aid concert in 1985. Working closely with the Freddie Mercury Estate & the remaining members of Queen, the production is committed to ensuring the film is authentic and a true to life story & portrayal of Queen's rise to fame.

Tower Hamlets Film Office, managed by The Film Office, welcomed the production to the borough whilst going back in time on Columbia Road. The highly anticipated film used the iconic towers of Leopold Buildings as their cinematic backdrop double for New York City.

Tower Hamlets Community Housing - the charitable housing provider of Leopold Buildings says "THCH is always happy to support The Film Office in bringing a wide and varied range of productions to Tower Hamlets and have helped by providing assistance in a variety of forms over the years.  We will continue to look to help The Film Office bring more productions to the Borough in the coming years.

Disruptions to the local community are always kept to a minimum and through The Film Office's support, local residents have benefited from donations helping with brightening up estates such as bulb planting through to assistance with a pensioner's Christmas party."

The production's location manager, Adam Betterton says,"The Film Office made it possible for our feature film to use a busy London Location for a midweek shoot. They where able to help discus our filming with the residents, advise us on best facilities in the area to help our shoot and where hands on from the start in helping the shoot to happen. They had a happy to help attitude and advised in a pragmatic and helpful way with all requests. Without their help our shoot would not have been possible and a good relationship was maintained between our crew, the residents and The Film Office."

Bohemian Rhapsody scheduled to be released in America on Christmas Day 2018, before a UK release on 28th December 2018.
