Did you spot Newham in Black Mirror?
Back in May 2017, we were contacted by Black Mirror Productions for Series 4 of hit Netflix show 'Black Mirror'.
The dystopian hit-series created by Charlie Brooker was looking for a controllable road to film night scenes as part of the series' finale episode 'Black Museum'.
The scene involved doubling London for New York with one of the main characters of the episode - Dr Dawson (Daniel Lapaine) - walking down a derelict road in Manhattan (Peto Street North) - we won't spoil the plot but the episode is full of nuggets from the show's history.
Newham Film Office, managed by The Film Office, worked closely with the Netflix production to find the perfect spot to facilitate filming - it needed the right look & feel and away from residents so the production could carry out their filming with an overnight road closure. Peto Street North was a perfect location.
In addition, The Film Office liaised with Crossrail 2 in order for the production to use the land adjacent to the street as their Unit Base.
Assistant Film Officer George Giry-Deloison said: "The episode shot scenes in Navada and Spain so it was great to showcase our client borough of Newham in the show. We continue to ensure the industry is fully aware of Newham's locations available for filming to ensure we continue to attract more high end filming and business to the borough".
Location Manager Saba Kia Commented: "Filming at this location came with its challenges, but with the help of the fantastic team at The Film Office, we were able to get exactly what we needed."
The entire 4th series was released on Netflix on December 29th 2017 and the finale now boasts 8.8 rating on IMDb. So go watch it now.
